Veneers
A veneer is a small porcelain
shield that can be attached to a tooth of which a thin layer
on the outside has been removed with a bur. The veneer is custom
made by a dental laboratory after the dentist has taken an
impression of the tooth. It will be attached to the tooth using
an adhesive cement.
A veneer is indicated when a tooth is healthy and strong, but presents
bad esthetics.
Procedure:
- Diagnosis and treatment planning: impression
- Preparation: reshaping – impression – temporary
veneer
- Bonding: final veneer
Crowns
A dental crown is a replica that is normally made of porcelain
and is used to cover damaged, unattractive teeth. The crown
reinforces the tooth and makes it look nicer. The root of the
tooth needs to be healthy though. If this is not the case the
root must be removed and an implant should be considered.
