This
is probably the most common procedure performed on clients
travelling from the United Kingdom. This is largely due
to the fact that clients can enjoy the discretion of
surgery abroad and relax in privacy during the first
two weeks or so.
Before the Procedure
It is essential that you get sound professional advice before you go ahead with

Before you attend for your consultation try and write down all the questions
that you would like to ask our surgeon. You may forget when you are there. It’s
also a good idea to bring someone along with you for support, of course, if you
want to keep the procedure totally confidential, that’s fine too.

The Consultation
Your consultation for a facelift will last typically between half an hour and
one hour. You will have the opportunity to ask all of your questions directly
to the surgeon. He will examine you and make his recommendations. He will explain
the benefits of a facelift and the risks too.
Following your consultation with the surgeon, your patient co-ordinator will
be able to confirm the cost and make all arrangements for you if you decide to
proceed.
Pre-operative screening
Before your procedure it may be necessary to have some tests carried out. For
example, blood tests. Your surgeon will advise you what tests are required. Your
patient co-ordinator will arrange these for you. It is important that we know
you are fit and well for the procedure.
The Procedure
There a number of types of facelift that can be performed. Your surgeon will
discuss these with you in detail, outlining the benefits and drawbacks of them
all.
Of course, you are going to want to know which facelift is right for you. Following
his assessment your surgeon will have selected the right procedure to fit your
needs.
The most common facelift performed is known as the SMAS lift. Most face-lifting
is performed under general anaesthetic and this means that you are asleep throughout
the procedure. A facelift takes between two and three hours to complete, sometimes
even longer. The incisions are usually just in front of the ear, in the crease
line behind the ear and there may be some sutures in the hairline too.
Since there are a number of different facelifts it is difficult to be more specific
here. For example in a composite lift a browlift is included and lifting of the
eyelids. It is common to combine a facelift with other facial procedures such
as eyebag surgery to give a complete result. Many clients choose to undergo the
extra facial procedure at the same time to avoid the need for a second separate
operation.
After the procedure
You should expect some swelling and discomfort following the procedure. Following
discharge from hospital you will be taken back home if you live locally, or your
hotel to begin your recovery period. You will have sutures that may need to be
removed if they are not dissolvable. Your surgeon will advise you about this
also. You can also expect noticeable bruising around the neck area together with
the jaw and cheek areas. Most patients notice a significant improvement in the
bruising and swelling after the first two weeks but it can take some time for
everything to settle completely. You will want to book about two to three weeks
off work, most clients return to work after two weeks but caution is advised
if the eyes have been treated at the same time. You should rest after the procedure
although do not retire to your bed.
