Obesity surgery is increasingly common
worldwide, meaning that there are now a number of specialist treatments
with proven track records. At Mills & Mills Medical
we also offer the Gastric Band, sometimes known as the
Lap Band.
The
gastric / lap band is a silicone band that
is placed around part of your stomach to reduce
its capacity by up to 25 – 30 cc. This
means that you can feel fuller sooner and therefore
eat less. This procedure is ideally suited
to more extreme cases of long-term obesity.
The fitting of the band does not require any surgical cutting,
stapling, or stomach re-routing that you may have read about
in other procedures from other hospitals. Our focus
is on proven, minimally-invasive procedures means that you
will have a faster recovery.
The result of gastric gastric / lap surgery is steady weightloss.
It does not lead to the significant side effects of a gastric
bypass. With a gastric / lap band, you do not experience
problems absorbing vitamins or digesting food. It simply
reduces your capacity to eat, resulting in weight loss and
on-going weight management.
The gastric / lap band uses remarkeable technology where by
a small devise is fitted under the skin during surgery that
enables the doctor to adjust the band’s diametre. This
means the amount of energy your body gets from the food you
eat versus the fat stored in your body can be adjusted according
to your health needs.
The insertion of the band and the control device are done under
general aneasthetic and therefore you will usually be in hospital
overnight.
Full information on this procedure including possible risks
and side effects are detailed in our Patient Guide – please
