Breast Surgery Questions & Answers
Breast Surgery Questions & Answers
Dr Brianda Mendoza answers your questions
about Breast surgery, where the procedures include Breast
Lift, Reduction & Augmentation (enlargement).
Breast surgery is the most popular cosmetic surgery for women,
making them look & feel younger and sexier.
Q. How long with the results of breast augmentation (enlargement) last?
A. Breast enlargement should last at least for 10 years. One must remember that the ageing process, gravity, skin quality and changes in one's body weight do not stop after a cosmetic procedure. Together, they all play an important role in the long term result.
Q. Should I have my implant placed above the muscle or below the muscle? If it is above the muscle will it feel natural to touch?
A. Both techniques have got pros and cons. Each patient is different, so it is important to have a consultation to identify what is best for you. If the patient is very thin, for example, the best result will be with the implant underneath the muscle to avoid the implant being noticeable at the upper edge. Otherwise, above the muscle works very well. With both techniques, the implants feel natural to touch.
Q. Can I still breast feed?
A. Yes, in almost all cases a woman can breast feed.
Q. What is the scarring like?
A. Cosmetic surgery specialises is leaving the
least amount of scarring. The position of an incision
is chosen so they often appear in natural folds of
skin and in places where they are very unnoticeable.
In addition the skill used to make the incisions means
that scarring is truly minimal.
It is important to prepare for your surgery and also look after yourself after
surgery. For example, massage, hydration and total sun block are very important
after the operation. Many of our customers specifically take a vacation after
surgery to recovery without the temptation to do house work, or return to professional
work, so that they can relax and accelerate the natural healing process.
Q. Can people tell I have had enlargement surgery?
A. It does depend on your objectives. For example, if you want to go from a cup B to a D, people will know! It's worth thinking about what you want to look like afterwards, as a more natural result is often the best in the long term.
Q. How long does it take to recover?
A. The length of time varies for each of the three main types of breast surgery. For example, as augmentation may take between 1 and 2 hours and it is usually performed under general anaesthetic. A breast reduction will take a little longer. If you have general anaesthetic you can stay in the Mills & Mills Medical hospital overnight and enjoy the benefits of the 24 hour doctor service.
Q. How long does the surgery take and is it under general anaesthetic?
A. Between 3 and 6 weeks. One should not return
to activities like aerobics or lifting heavy weights
should until 6 weeks after the operation.
