Why do people decide to have cosmetic
surgery abroad? What is it really like? To help answer
these customers, we talk to Amy from Harrow.
Here she tells us her story about Cosmetic
Surgery Abroad and her experience of using Mills
& Mills Medical Group in Marbella,
Spain.
 “When
I first decided to have liposuction on
my stomach and hips I began looking locally in central London
for cosmetic surgery companies. I went to a couple of consultations
with different London
based clinics, but didn’t feel right about making
the decision to proceed. So I decided to look at the possibility
of having surgery
abroad.”
Amy continues, “At first I was very dubious with having
such major surgery abroad. We’ve all read cosmetic
surgery horror stories in magazines, so I wasn’t too
sure about being away from home.”
Amy is not alone, as being away from home is a common concern.

in the UK as well as free aftercare in the UK. They also
help make all the travel and accommodation arrangements,
so clients can travel with partners or family, making it
more enjoyable.
Amy confirms, “I soon received the information pack
and a brochure from David Mills at Mills & Mills Medical.
The literature told me all about the company as well as my
procedure. I realised that although I would travel to have
the procedure, all your pre-op. and post-op. appointments
were in the UK, close to home.
“Also, even though the Mills
& Mills Hospital is in Spain, both David and his wife Debra, are
English and I understood that the majority of staff were either English
or spoke very good English. This really helped put my worries at rest.
“Having said that, I did feel a little nervous about having surgery.
Right up until the day I arrived in Spain, I still had a lot of “what
ifs” in my mind. But I travelled to Spain with my partner, so I wasn’t
alone – and Mills and Mills helped make all the arrangements.
“I was met at the airport personally by David Mills and soon after meeting
him at the airport my doubts were put to rest. I felt confident about the procedure.
After being met by David, I was taken to the hospital to
discuss the surgery and I was given the opportunity to ask
any further questions that I had. The hospital itself was
amazing! It didn’t look like a hospital at all; it
was more like a hotel, with beautiful gardens, a pool and
lovely decoration inside. This was great as I have a huge
fear of hospitals.
“Once I had been shown my private room at the hospital where I would
stay after the op., my partner & I were taken to see the hotel where we
could enjoy our break. (We stayed at the brand new Hotel
Lorcrimar, close to Puerto Banus and Marbella). The rest of the day was
ours to enjoy and get to know the area.
Early the next morning, at 6am, we were picked up and taken
to the hospital. Shortly after arriving at the hospital I
was taken down to the operating theatre, where I had my liposuction.
“After 4 and ½ hours I was taken to my private room and looked
after by a team of nurses that couldn’t have been more helpful. They
took care of me right up until I left the following day.
After being released from hospital, the rest of the holiday
was for my partner and I to enjoy. Although I was in slight
discomfort it didn’t ruin the rest of the holiday and
we were able to enjoy the Costa del Sol.
Overall the whole experience was amazing! I would say to
anyone thinking of having surgery to seriously consider doing
it abroad. In my opinion it makes the whole thing so much
better and more relaxing.
Amy is unequivocal, “If I were to ever have any more
surgery I would without a doubt go back to Mills & Mills
Medical in Spain. There is no better place to recover from
anything than under the sun in Spain!”
The operation has been a real success. The surgeon took a
total of 4 ½ litres of fat from Amy’s stomach
and hips. As she says, “although I still have a lot
of swelling and bruising already I have lost 10 pounds and
lost 8 inches of my waist and this is just after 15 days!”
