The Mills and Mills well woman health check is a professional health screen undertaken by our eminent lady Gynaecologist, Dr Mabel Niera. It will only take around half an hour of your time and provide you with important information about a number of aspects of your health

Why is a well women health check required?

Smear Tests

A smear test is very important as this checks for possible cancer of the cervix.

Women are at most risk from cervical cancer is they are or have been sexually active.

Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women and is responsible for around 1500 deaths each year.

It is worth noting however that the smear test saves many more lives through early detection.

The test can also detect other problems such as infections.

Breast Examinations

A Breast examination by a health professional such as a Gynaecologist is an important part of your health check. A clinical breast examination should be carried out every three years up to the age of forty and every year thereafter.

If you have a family history of breast cancer , examinations may need to be more frequent depending on the advice of your physician.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. In 2005 there were over 45.000 diagnosed cases.

Blood Pressure

Your blood pressure is very important and you should know what your numbers are. It is quite possible to have blood pressure that is too high without ever knowing.

High blood pressure left untreated can be very dangerous and potentially fatal.

High blood pressure puts you at risk from a heart attack, stoke and heart failure.

If you do have high blood pressure it can be treated. About 250.000 people have a heart attack in the UK each year.

What does the health check consist of ?

A Smear Test | A Breast Examination | A Blood Pressure Test

Smear Test - This test takes only a few minutes. You will lie on your back with your knees bent and your legs apart. The Doctor inserts a plastic instrument called a speculum into the vagina to see the neck of the womb. Then a spatula is used to collect cells from the area of the cervix and these cells are then put onto a glass slide ready for examination. This slide is then sent to the laboratory. The test is not painful although some women may find the speculum a little uncomfortable. When we have received the results of your test you will be contacted directly. If another appointment is required with the Gynaecology to discuss the results this can be arranged.

Breast Examination - For this part of your screen you ill undress from the waist up ready for the examination by our Gynaecologist. The Doctor will examine the breasts for detection of lumps, changes in the shape or size. She will also look for rashes or other discolouring in the breasts. As part of the examination she may ask you to raise your arms above your head or lean forward. If there are any areas that require further investigation the Doctor will advise you.

Blood Pressure Test - This test is quick , painless and simple. The Doctor will put a cuff on the upper arm and inflate it. This can be done manually by the Doctor or sometimes a machine will do this automatically. If it is dome manually the Doctor will use a stethoscope to listen to the pressure and take the readings. The Doctor takes two readings. The fist is known as the systolic pressure. This tells the Doctor the pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts. The second reading is called the diastolic pressure. This tells the Doctor the pressure when your heart is at rest between the beats. As the resuls of this test is immediate the Doctor will be able to give you the results of this test straight away.

What is the cost of the screen?

The well woman screen is offered at a very low price of only 100 euros (about 90 pounds) We have kept the cost of this screen to a minimum to encourage as many women as possible to come forward and have these important areas checked on a regular basis.

Can I combine my screen with a weekend break?

Of course you can. We ave many clients from the UK who combine medical and aesthetic procedures with a break in Marbella.
